Introduction to Sand Casting

This is a one day workshop offered both weekdays and weekends. 

What You Will Learn

Casting metal in to moulds made of sand is a useful process with many applications.  The goal of this workshop is to provide an overview of the sand casting process, equipment and materials and through completion of an actual casting give the novice confidence to further explore this technique.

 Topics include:

  • Safe work practices
  • Alloys for casting
  • Types of sand
  • Making a basic (one-sided) model
  • Building a flask
  • Making a mould
  • Small scale melting furnaces
  • Finishing the cast

 Who Should Attend

Hobbyists, do-it-yourselfers, artists and the just plain curious will find this a great learning experience.  Whether you expect to pursue casting further or not, youíll have fun and take home a long-lasting object of your own making. No experience necessary
