A Welding Primer for the Hobbyist

This is a one day workshop offered both weekdays and weekends.

What You Will Learn

The goal of this session is to give the novice confidence to begin welding in their own garage or shop, with readily available equipment.

  •  Principles of electric arc welding

  •  Safe work practices

  •  Selecting a welding machine

  •  Welder set-up and operation

  •  MIG (GMAW) vs Flux Core welding

  •  Making basic welds

  •  Horizontal and vertical position welding

  •  Grinding, cleaning, and  finishing

  •  Bonus: Intro to Plasma Cutting! ***

No prior experience is necessary.

 Who Should Attend

Welding schools and community colleges teach welding geared to industrial applications.  At Rio Bravo we will teach you on equipment similar to what you can actually acquire to work on your own.  If you are interested in building some items for your home or garden, if you want to experiment with steel sculpture, or if you want to perform some repairs around the house, garage or farm, this course is for you.

These classes are limited to only two students per session.  Don't be disappointed.  Register now!

Students are required to bring welding gloves and helmet (auto darkening preferred).  Maximum 2 students per session.  Full payment of $195.00 is required to reserve your place.  Date changes and cancellations allowed up to 14 days prior to start date.  Changes and refunds subject to a $35.00 fee.  No refunds within 14 days of start date.
